How to Repair a Broken Chromebook Touchpad

Just like any other device, sometimes things can breakdown. One of the most common issues with a Chromebook is the touchpad breaking. The touchpad is the small cursor pad on the computer-board that looks like it has glass. One way to check for this issue is just moving your fingers on it to see if it registers or not. Another way you can tell this is occurring is if your cursor seems really slow and unresponsive on your screen, or it doesn’t respond at all, even if you move your fingers across the touchpad. This problem can happen because of lots of reasons, including spilled fluids or cracks due to dropping the computer. Fixing this issue isn’t too hard once you know about some troubleshooting steps to take, so follow these two important steps for handling this issue: press and hold Refresh + Power keys together for 10 seconds.

I just had the same problem. My touchpad had become unresponsive and I couldn’t use it at all. I found this post on Google’s forums which worked for me:

also seen this work for other people:

using Chrome OS version:

Hold the power and refresh keys down for 10 seconds.

Could not generate paragraph due to insufficient balance

Release the power key first while still holding down the refresh key.

If this doesn’t work, try unplugging the touchpad, then plugging it back in.

If this still doesn’t work, try booting into the recovery mode and reinstalling the drivers.

If none of these work, then it’s time to contact a computer repair person.

In the top right hand corner, press and hold the refresh key, and the power key at the same time. This will bring up the option to restart.

If you don’t see this, then you need to reset your Chromebook by holding the power button on for about 5 seconds.

Press and hold the refresh key..

Then, the Chromebook will start to beep and display the message “Not Responding”.

Once the computer is doing this, you need to follow the steps below to solve this issue:

Take out the AC Adapter.

Replace the AC Adapter.

Turn on the Chromebook and see if it starts to work again.

Sometimes the Chromebook won’t work after removing the AC Adapter, so you can also try the next step: press and hold the power button on the top of the computer for 10 seconds. This will start the computer and allow you to continue to troubleshoot the issue.

Press and hold the power key..

Hold both keys down for 10 seconds..

Release the refresh key first while still holding down the power key.

Steps for fixing the issue

1. Remove the computer’s battery and wait at least 15 minutes before you attempt to fix the issue.

2. Close all of the Chrome tabs you have open and start Chrome up again.

3. Open up the settings and make sure the touchpad settings are set to “Touchpad is disabled” or “Touchpad is enabled”.

4. If your touchpad is disabled, set it to “Touchpad is enabled”.

5. Restart the computer.

If you’re lucky, you’ll get a warning about your Chromebook running out of battery before it shuts down.

…then hold down the Refresh key for 10 seconds.

Then release both keys and restart the computer.

My open browser tabs keep reloading and making everything slow

The problem with continually refreshing my browser as it becomes slow.I am constantly using my browser for several hours a day, and the problem with the browser continually refreshing itself is that it gets slow.

My browser has a javascript file which constantly checks if the connection is still active, and if not, it automatically opens a new tab.

I don’t want to disable the javascript function, as I am sure there are some legitimate reasons to check if the connection is still active.

However, the browser becomes so slow when I have more than two or three tabs open, that I am forced to close them. I want to disable the function, but I don’t know how.
